These are the adventures and life of Roxanne Bonaventure. At the age of ten, a elderly woman appears and hands are a wrist device called a Sofia which allows her to open portals and visit different time periods and see alternative realities diverge.
Her travels doesn't affect her subjective age - the minute I started asking this to myself, author Robinson covers it - so we also see Roxie as she gets older.
It's hard to cover Roxie's adventures in any detail without giving away some of the twists but the hook in the first story should, if you know your history, keep you going until the end. There are various homages to other time travellers as well as indications that things don't always go as expected.
Occasionally, I felt the stories rather too episodic but with the author's note at the end, Robinson confirms this with how they were wrote to bring the material up to book-length. If I was to be critical about this then I would have had him going over the entire length to ensure the 'age' of the writing matches the final state of the writer.
Then again, the problem of doing that means those who've read the adventures separately might feel that this would change things too much. Always a dilemma.
If you enjoy time travel stories then you will enjoy owning and reading this book. It's a lot of fun and Chris Robinson doesn't forget his SF roots.
