When Callie gets to meet the latest, hottest band she doesn't realise how hairy things are going to get. Whilst backstage, following her less than successful interview with band members, she overhears a deep, dark secret. At first, she doesn't understand what it means but as the truth becomes clear, Callie realises she is the only one who can save the children of her town.

In a re-working of the tale of the pied piper, it is transposed to modern, youth-worshipping America and becomes not only the tale of a young girl fixated on a rock band but the story of an exiled wanderer who every seven years must exact a terrible price from his human hosts.

This short novel aimed at the young adult market is well-described and plotted giving an insight into the mind of an amoral faerie that chooses not to take proper punishment for his sin. The descriptions of faerie-land are well contrasted with the modern urban setting that Callie must track across to solve the mystery. Her common-sense, no nonsense and profoundly moral approach is also contrasted with the stance taken by Gringras as he offers up his price without care about the human misery involved.

Included at the end are some song lyrics from the fictional rock band, so it would be great if the publishers could rock and roll this onto a CD with music added to the lyrics pretty please.
