'Highlander', the film about an immortal that must fight for the right to die was a big hit in 1986 and eventually as all things must, it spawned a TV series which has quite a dedicated following for its star, Adrian Paul. In a reasonably unique crossover, Adrian Paul appeared in 'Highlander: Endgame' when his character Duncan Macleod teams up with the original Highlander, Connor Macleod, played by Christopher Lambert. I'm not sure what happened to the phrase 'there can be only one' but perhaps someone can explain.
The music covers the 'Highlander' TV series which ran from 1992-1997. Producer Bill Panzer wanted to treat each episode as a mini-feature film and hired the composer Roger Bellon before he started filming. Each episode has its own style of music so we are not looking a generic or homogenous collection of music here.
The CD features vocals from Laura Creamer, Daniel O'Brien, Rick Palumbi and the Immortal Choir. There were 119 episodes but there are only 26 tracks on this CD. Some are pretty short, too.
Three bonus tracks are from 'Highlander - A Celtic Opera' which sounds intriguing. At present, this only exists in CD form but no doubt fan power may yet bring it to the stage. This is available as a separate CD.
This is more likely to appeal to you if you are already a fan but there are sufficiently different music styles here to give an intriguing glimpse into the world of 'Highlander'. There really is an amazing range from the every Scottish to ragtime, through flamenco and Japanese. It really opens up the more you listen to it with different highlights every time. For a show that was usually under time and budget pressure it is a creditable music selection. If you don't like one track then just flip to the next. It is a good showcase for the series which regrettably is only available on DVD from America.
