The great joy of all things digital is that it's no longer frustratingly expensive to run off a limited vinyl edition. CDs are showing that it is possible to cater for the audience it was intended for and still control costs.
'Cinemusic: The Film Music Of Chuck Cirino' is as it says on the box the music from three films which because of their market hasn't made it to the UK as far as I can see. Still, not seeing a film doesn't necessarily mean anything. The way film music is composed today, much of it can live outside the film. Chuck Cirino appears to be no exception to this rule. He's worked mostly in the exploitation and independent market for the likes of Roger Corman which should speak for itself. Corman might be budget-conscious but he has a way of giving talented people their breaks.
The first seven tracks belong to 'A.I. Assault'. A thundering excitedly moving heart-thumping beat which if nothing else will keep you wide awake with its speedy rendition.
The next nine tracks belong to 'Komodo Vs. Cobra'. As the title suggests lizards, the tempo is given a pace for motion. Cirino has a mood for motion and excitement in his music that I'm really enjoying better than some of the music I hear which tries to be unintrusive. Interestingly, he drops down to some quieter music and the contrast is quite startling.
The final nine tracks belong to 'Solar Attack'. These are far more laid back compared to the first two and a marked contrast. Without the films to compare them to, I can only surmise the difference.
Cirino shows a marked contrast in his musical style suggesting he varies the material to the film's requirements. The contrast of loud to toned down with the last one clearly indicates the difference between immediate and more space bound. If you pick up soundtrack albums alone, I think this one will be of interest. If you own the original films, then you'll be after this one. If you like instrumentals then this is of interest as well. Can't say better than that.
