If you ever thought that the paranormal, ESP, pseudo-medical remedies, UFOs, ghosties and things than bump in the night was misinformed or got it wrong then this book really is the one for you. Author Terence Hines looks at everything, showing that a lot of the time the scientific evidence has been flawed in its testing and certainly does not pass close scrutiny.

Considering one of my chief realities deals with Psionics, I actually came away agreeing with him. Not in the area that there might not be something there but as me the scientist agreeing that at least some aspects have not been tested properly. I've never really cared for the way ESP is tested by statistical probability for instance. Having a subject having to do thousands of card calls is more a demonstration of patience than predictability. It is rather interesting that although Hines shows things are wrong that he offers no tests that could be used in their place.

This book does show how the establishment has been fooled by magicians and con-artists over the years or just merely misled with evidence to see what they want to see. The most important aspect you will come away from this book is how much poppycock has been laid in all directions that if there is anything supernormal out there then its been hidden by the charlatans.

I found this book an eye-opener in everything said. Even more remarkable for the size of the book is that is neither concise or a tiring read. Hines writes with great insight and plain speaking without belittling the reader with anything but common-sense. If I have to be critical of anything, I wish Hines had actually given some thought as to anything out there that is really unexplained after clearing the air here.

This book has my unreserved recommendation to be read and thoroughly digested and deeply thought about. We who dabble in Science Fiction create differences in our realities as a matter of course. It's quite a different matter to see it being faked outside of a film or TV studio for so long. I'm sure it will disillusion or upset some people but if nothing else, it might make way for anything that really is real.
