This is my first encounter with the work of Chad Michael Ward although this is third volume of his collected digital photos-cum-paintings. Looking at his pictures, it appears that he uses a photographed live model for the starting point and then embellishes it in fantasy, horror or gothic tones to achieve the effect he wants. Much of the time this goes a very dark and the example pages shown here I chose primarily because they would stand out at such a small size. Choosing even this sampling meant leaving a lot of others than struck me behind. Much of the work features bare-chested ladies and so the book is recommended for adults although none of it is portrayed in a sexual way.

It can be said that paintings are there to give a visual statement and it is the observer that interprets with words. With that in mind, to some extent, I think this is a book that needs to be looked at by more than one person at a time so an expression of views can be exchanged. Ward's art can both shock and bewilder at the same time as to what he is getting at. Certainly, the absence of text leaves it all in the hands of the reader to ponder on. I can certainly understand how he's getting such a following as Ward's art grew on me as I looked through this book.
