The adventure continues as the Doctor and Amy arrive in 9th century Sudan amidst a power struggle. However, they are split up and their mission to collect the segments of the Key to Time may fail which means the universe will reach a full stop very shortly.
Amy finds herself a slave in the household of Lord Cassim where strange things going on. Cassim is hoarding gold and may soon get a visit from his own lord and master, the Legate of the Caliph, demanding the tribute. Cassim's son has shifting loyalties but can he be relied upon to do the right thing and just who is Cassim anyway? There's an awful lot going on in the cellar of the palace that really shouldn't and when Amy meets a blue man down there it all begins to fall into place.
Meanwhile, the Doctor, now allied with an old enemy, has some hard decisions to make.
The search for the segments continues but there is an apparently earthly intrigue to cope with before the considerations of time-space and the whole time-stopping thing. The story is bound up with fairy tale, intrigue and a little romance and all the better for it. The earthbound setting is easier on the brain and the characters give it their all. It does occasionally lapse into pantomime but I prefer my stories of imminent destruction leavened with humour.
This is great fun and to say any more would spoil it. The search for the segment is an integral part but the thrust of the narrative is the adventure on Earth which is a roistering good tale.
