A man is on a cable car going up a Swiss mountain. He is not sure who he is but does have a piece of paper in his pocket telling him he's a doctor. His travelling companion is a lady, Queenie, visiting her father in the fashionable sanatorium at the top of the mountain. Apparently, Doctor Black has died and it's a bit of a mystery. This doctor likes mysteries.

When the man arrives, he finds a cast of characters who might be more at home in a concert party. They include music hall stars Harry and Herbert Randall and chess champion Swapnil Khan, not forgetting the silent Mrs Kerniddle. Just who are the pair of socialites in the attic and why are they so keen to prevent the man remembering who he is?

Everyone is playing games some more deadly than snap and musical chairs. Electric shock treatment is used when memories are close to surfacing but the man is meddling might be getting close to the truth, which is the last thing anybody wants.

This is a fabulous story. It is set up beautifully and takes many elements from different backgrounds including an original baddie from the William Hartnell era. The writer, Matthew Sweet, has produced a fascinating intricate and puzzling intrigue for the Doctor to unravel and has used some of his life experience as a journalist to enrich the story on offer. It's an intriguing mystery and is worth a repeat listen.

Extras as usual are included with lots of chat from the actors. This one also include an extra episode called 'The Three Companions: Polly's Story' but I've not received that as yet. All round good value.
