'Passengers' is a supernatural movie. A plane crash occurs with only a handful of survivors. Claire Summers is a grief councillor assigned to look after them but Eric, one of the survivors, is just a bit too jolly for his own good. Claire and Eric begin to see a lot more of each other but the professional relationship becomes a bit more personal and they commence an affair.

During all this, something is going on with the other survivors. One claims that he is being followed by a mysterious man and despite an official from the airways company insisting that the crash was down to pilot error, some passengers have recall of a fire and explosion which leads them to think it could have been caused by faulty maintenance. The company insist they are wrong.

Strangely, some of the survivors begin to disappear and Claire Summers thinks a cover-up is in operation. Despite her boss telling her to calm down, she pursues this belief and ends up in trouble. Meanwhile, she continues her relationship with Eric.

Unfortunate Eric, he just can't cope with his survival. He gives up his job, begins to see a strange dog on occasions and when visiting the crash-site he sees an elderly man, somewhat familiar and mysterious. Eventually, he decides to stand in front of an oncoming train. Claire is naturally perturbed at not only this but her inability to contact her estranged sister.

Clare eventually meets up with the airline boss, only after witnessing more of the survivors disappear. Going further into the synopsis would be a spoiler but sufficient to say the situation becomes resolved eventually.

Basically this 93 minute supernatural story is low-budget and rather slow. At times it is excruciatingly boring and Anne Hathaway's voice takes on Mickey Mouse acoustics on occasions. The acting is reasonable without being over the top and by the time you get to the end of the movie you're quite pleased it's all over. Okay, there's lots of worse movies out there and if you've got nothing to do on a wet afternoon, this would be fine entertainment. Otherwise I would give it a miss.
