Robin and his new ally, Guy of Gisbourne, decide to investigate reports of German mercenaries in the Shire...that's Nottinghamshire. They are not as silent and deadly as they should be. The result, several cursing Germans chasing them, spoiling for a fight. The pair of reluctant allies come across an old deserted castle and decide to hole up there.

It's not exactly hospitable but Robin has fond memories of happier times. He reveals this castle was where he trained to be a knight before losing his land and becoming an outlaw. A stash of wine leads the pair to get riotously drunk and reminisce about good times. Cue the 'I really love you Robin...you're my best friend...' or not.

Unsurprisingly, there's no time for a hangover as the mercenaries are catching up. Facing up to certain death together, it's time to pull out all the stops to escape.

Read by Richard Armitage, this is a rollicking story which is read with a range of emotions and fulfils the criteria of Robin Hood -a little sadness, a lot of laughs and a twisty plot. Armitage offers his wonderfully brusque tones and gets right under the skin of the tale. He's certainly good value and I felt like I'd experienced a complete drama rather than someone reading out of book.
