'Guardian Of The Solar System' sees the return of Space Security Agent Sara Kingdom or rather her imprint in the house of wishes, across the water from Ely. She has tricked Robert into staying on at the house to keep her company. He wanted her to cure his daughter of the sleeping plague but Sara exacted a price. Now he wants to be allowed to die but Sara has one final story to tell.

She has to tell him about how she came to kill her brother and why she is still haunted. Sara explains about her visit to the clock which worked on the power of entrapped old men. Mavic Chen, Guardian of the Solar System, the great mind behind it was also the man she rebelled against which resulted in her travels with the Doctor. Sara believed she might be able to persuade him to give up this powerful clock that opened up methods of space travel. But here, actions are already leading to the inevitable, the future in which her younger self kills her brother.

Sara is already trapped in the workings of the universe and as she looks back she realises just how she became entangled in her own destruction. The Doctor could have told her that messing with time always has bad results.

This is a great finish to the run of audios that started with 'Home Truths' and 'The Drowned World'. Jean Marsh as Sara invests a great deal of wisdom into her words but she is ably counterparted by Niall Macgregor as Robert, her reluctant companion. This series has been particularly poignant but inspiring and stands out as a classic in its own right. Sara Kingdom is not finished yet and it looks like there will be a whole new adventure for the space security agent in 2011.
