Before he meets up with Jim Kirk and the new crew of the Enterprise in the new ‘Star Trek’ franchise, Nero has to get through the wormhole. The first part of the story is told in ‘Countdown’ and this continues his quest for vengeance as Nero waits to exact his revenge and takes us to the brink of the screenplay.
‘Nero’ incorporates several characters to attempt to make more of the story but it’s a flimsy premise that draws on previous knowledge of the ‘Star Trek’ stories. It offers little more than the new ‘Star Trek’ film and seems to be merely another way of adding to the merchandise available. It is simply a cynical chess game as it places each piece in the place it will be when the film starts. The book is nicely put together with excellent art work that will appeal to the fans but it lacks any originality with an ultra-thin plot spread over its glossy pages.
