When you go to a new school, it's hard to fit in and 'Earthling' is all about what can go wrong and what can go right. People have prejudices about where you come from. They might have been told things about you that they think are true. You might be shy, bad at sports and generally a bit of a geek. Life can be hard at a new school, especially if you happen to end up at the wrong school.
Bud moves in with his father to a remote location, he knows he's going to have to get the bus to a new school. He doesn't realise just how different his life is about to become as he accidentally gets on an intergalactic space bus which goes to a school in space. All the other students and the Earth has such a bad reputation that there is no way that Bud can tell anyone other than his new best friends that he is an Earthling.
In an amusing twist on what it's like having to go to a new school and make friends, this graphic novel spins a story of unexpected space travel, cleverness and bravery for younger kids. It's fun and easy to follow with a hint about what real life is like, all wrapped up in an exciting plot which is beautifully illustrated. It's aimed at ages 8-12 but let's face it adults, parents and bigger siblings will also get a kick out of this.
