Here’s another issue of ‘The Zombie Times’, the regular newsletter for those who want to know about everything that’s happening in the world of the undead. As usual, it is filled with a mixture of short articles on zombie films currently in production, book, game and DVD reviews and lots of competitions to win the stuff featured.
My personal highlight in this issue is an article by Adam Millard, who talks about the writing of ‘Dead Frost’, the recently released final novel in his zombie trilogy. The story follows a quartet of humans trying to survive the zombie apocalypse on a supposedly secure abandoned military base. However, when a blizzard knocks out all the generators, their hiding place suddenly isn’t so safe anymore. Can they keep out of the clutch of the undead? Adam explains why he prefers writing stories about zombies, rather than other kinds of supernatural creatures, such as vampires or werewolves. The novels sound interesting and there’s a competition to win the first two books in the trilogy. What’s not to like?
Another interesting article explains what will be happening at the ‘Flat-Pack Zombie Workshop’ in North London between 17-19 April 2012. This is an opportunity to find out how to make and apply silicone gel-filled zombie prosthetics and is aimed at those who don’t have much experience or equipment. If you’ve always wondered how they produce the kit that makes film zombies look so real, here’s your chance to have a go for yourself.
Amongst the many reviews and short blurbs for upcoming books and DVDs, two longer ones that stood out for me were ‘War Against The Walking Dead’ by Sean T. Page, a blueprint for how to fight back against the ravening zombie hordes and an interesting review of ‘Eaters: Rise Of The Dead’, an Italian indie horror movie now out on DVD.
As spring turns into summer, the good weather may lull you into thinking that you’ve escaped a zombie invasion for another year. Reading ‘The Zombie Times’ is an entertaining way to keep up your guard. Subscribe, before it’s too late!
