Make a note from the start, this CD is the soundtrack to the film of ‘Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea’, not the TV series although composer Paul Sawtell wrote the music for both.
The main title is sung by Frankie Avalon to make use of the singer in the early part of his acting career as well as him being a member of this film’s cast.



It’s rather interesting listening to these tracks away from the film because they don’t really have much of what you would consider a nautical theme about them with more of an emphasis of dramatic tension. As a complete piece, the music is almost symphonic in quality and works surprisingly well away from the film. Paul Sawtell and Bert Shefter composed many film scores together, as well as previously for Irwin Allen, ‘The Lost World’, so hardly surprising that he would use them again here.

There is a fascinating twenty-page book to accompany this limited edition CD release written by music critic Randall D. Larsen. Not only does he focus on each of the tracks, two of which have never been released before of a temporary and alternative main title, but gives a detailed summation of the film, cast and key creators. Combined with the photographs, this booklet makes this CD a treasure trove, especially as it also includes websites to check out.
