Another season. Another Tomorrow Person. This is an establishment story for the new character, Mike Bell (played by then highly promoted drummer/pop star adolescent Michael Holloway) with a knack for opening locks being drawn into the underworld when such a talent has its uses for getting into banks. Bell also has the habit of leaving his accomplices locked in safes as he knows they are the bad, albeit stupid, guys.

Back at the lab, the Tomorrow People arrive back on Earth, having been out at the Galactic Trig since the end of Season 3. They in turn want to track down and recruit Bell and stop his apparent larcenous ways. Matters aren’t helped that the lead villain, Lord Dunning (you’re supposed to repeatedly say his name in louder tones by the way) has to be released rather than compromise the Tomorrow People’s existence to the world. One law for the rich and one for poor...

As the voice-overs by actors Nick Young and Peter Vaughn Clarke have indicated, ‘The Tomorrow People’ was a popular show even if its creator/writer, Roger Price, was becoming tired of it.

Price, also having a disrespect for authority figures, invariably made fun of them like the police in his scripts and was playing this up to camp elements even more so here. The unfortunate consequence of this was to reduce this series down to somewhat less than the standard of the earlier seasons.

From an adult POV, this does border a little on cringe-making and as actor Holloway points out, the series was made on a tiny budget for the effects they used.

Fans are going to love matching up continuity errors caused by outside recording and interiors being filmed/videoed months apart. From my perspective, it’s also interesting to see some of our character actors from long ago working in this period, let alone remembering their names.
