If anything, this season could be called the 'Jonas Quinn year' as actor Corin Nemec steps in for actor Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson). Considering the number of times Shanks cropped up over the 22 episodes, its amazing that Nemec didn't feel he was being undermined.

Amongst the extras, there is a quote that Shanks was feeling burnt out after five years and needed to charge his batteries. It's a good thing the production company realised that or his character could have been left permanently dead.

As it is, Season 6 from the audio commentaries was still being considered as being the last and with such pessimism, they always aimed to do their best which obviously contributed to 'Stargate SG-1's continuous success. Certainly, there is progress across the episodes with the Goa'uld still being undermined and the Jaffa breaking away to develop their free nation.

On Earth, more nations are told about the existence of the Stargate and their first starship, the Prometheus, is prematurely launched when stolen, repaired by the Asgard and has its proper maiden flight. Hope they remember to carry a spare power drive in future. A lot of loose ends were tied towards the end of this season, more so because the talk was towards a film which never materialised.

What still makes these boxsets worth buying is the directors' commentaries and behind the scenes extras that is really giving a grounding for anyone wanting to go in this direction. It's also an asset to writing as well in terms of making the best of a scene and making the best of your material. It does make me wonder how many years down the line where we are going to have upcoming directors who will say they were inspired by what directors Martin Wood and Peter DeLuise have to say on the subject.

On the final DVD, there is an hour long behind the scenes of the series which clearly shows a sense of humour isn't just left to Rick Anderson with Amanda Tapping and Chris Judge having some fun as well. All in all, a nicely rounded package and if you've been keeping up with me, the next season can be bought equally cheap at the moment. With the new slim-line box releases coming out, if you want the same size as when you started buying these boxsets, don't forget to buy yours now.
