The music on this ‘Torchwood’ CD comprises of tracks from the first two seasons. The way they segue together makes it more like a complete musical piece than extracts from so many episodes. In fact, without the track details you would be pushed to know which episodes they came from although I’m sure some of you will no doubt be comparing them to the stories. From my perspective, a soundtrack can sound a lot stronger if you just listen to the music and enjoy it for its own sake and in that respect, it’s a very fine album.

The tracks range from having a racy beat to a more largo like effect and both will grab your attention if you like having music in the background when you type or other activities you might indulge in.



The accompanying booklet is only eight pages, dominated by photos of the cast than anything.

Picking out favourite tracks on such albums is always difficult. I guess ‘Captain Jack’s Theme’ is one of the, shall we say, rousing tracks simply cos it gallops ahead and thumps in your ears. In contrast, ‘Memories Of Gray’ is very melancholy and, well, ghostly. Oddly, the ‘Torchwood’ theme music is left to the very last and only used once. Then again, unlike other soundtrack albums, this one is already full to bursting.

The entire album is incredibly well orchestrated and a delight to the ears. It’s very clear how much effort Ben Foster put into composing the music, especially under the rigours of short deadlines.
