I Am Legend (Mark's take)
01/01/2008. Richard Matheson's classic horror novel I Am Legend comes to the screen with CGI and lots of guns, most of which - says Mark - work against rather than for the story. Will Smith plays Robert Neville robbed of most of his anguish and his advancing madness. Some of the visual images are nice, but this is a story that needs to be made on a low budget to really work.

I Heart Huckabees: Mark's Take
01/01/2005. This weird comedic fantasy lampoons pop-philosophy and everything else within reach but wastes the talents of Dustin Hoffman.

I, Robot - Mark's Take
01/08/2004. In 2035 there is a murder at U.S. Robotics and a robophobic policeman, played by Will Smith, believes robots are responsible. Mixing animation and live action nearly seamlessly, I, Robot turns Isaac Asimov's robot world into the backdrop for a prosaic summer action film. It is not a film Asimov would have enjoyed much.

Ice Age
01/04/2002. Mark brings you the inside poop on Ice Age, and discovers that while it's writing was slightly warmer than polar climate change, the next Shrek, this wasn't!

Immortal (Mark's Take)
01/02/2006. In 2095 New York the Egyptian God Horus possesses a male human in order to procreate with a female alien. A Métal Hurlant sort of story is wedded to Métal Hurlant sort of visual images. The visuals may be temporarily very impressive, but the film really offers very little in story value. When it is all over, Mark thinks we are supposed to feel we have seen something momentous, but he doesn't think he knows exactly what.

In The Shadow Of The Moon (Mark's take)
01/11/2007. Never-before-seen footage of the Apollo space program and interviews with nine astronauts give new life the story of how the US put men on the moon. Personal interviews with several astronauts tell much more than most of us have known about the adventure and experience of going to the moon. This, says Mark, is an enthralling documentary even if you have seen the story told before.

India's Hollywood Takeaway
01/09/2003. Billed (inaccurately) as the first Indian science fiction film, Koi ... Mil Gaya mixes elements of many films, especially E.T. and Charly. Mark finds a movie which, while groundbreaking as a Bollywood film, rarely transcends American cable fare.
