Race to Witch Mountain (Frank's take)
01/05/2009. Race to Witch Mountain is sadly a race to the bottom of Frank's popularity scale, discovers our ace reviewer, as he delves into a sci-fi movie which offers little but lacklustre special effects and clichéd situational dilemma. Will your kids like it? Not if they've got any taste, he suspects.

Rahtree: Flower of the Night: Mark's Take
06/12/2004. This ghost story goes in eight different directions at once, from tragic social message to slapstick comedy. Some scenes are chilling, but the film is unfocused.

Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased)
01/01/2005. DVD: Carlton Visual Entertainment 37115 03033. 26 episodes/1250 minutes with little extras. Price: around £69.99 (UK) although I got it for about £29.00 so look around for the best price. Stars: Mike Pratt, Kenneth Cope and Annette Andre.

Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased) - The Complete Series Special Edition (PG)
01/07/2007. (Region 2 DVD. pub: Network 7952437. 7 DVDs 1300 minutes 26 episodes and loads of extras. Price £59.99 (UK) stars: Mike Pratt, Kenneth Cope and Annette Andre with a multitude of guest stars.

Rango (Mark's take)
01/04/2011. A pet chameleon falls from a truck in the middle of the Nevada desert. He soon finds his way to the dying Western town of Dirt where his bragging and his lucky defeat of a predatory hawk make him the town's new sheriff. Sadly, the town is drying up for shortage of water.

Ratatouille (Mark's take)
01/09/2007. Ratatouille has an engaging enough premise, finds Mark, but does not really have a good story to tell. The first third of the film is much more engaging than the remainder. The furry rat who is the main character is expressive and winning, but the human characters do not give him much support and the story pulls in too many directions.

Reign of Fire
01/09/2002. Flipping fire flaming dragons! Mark finds a movie idea that could have been, well, so intriguing, but instead was mishandled, avoiding showing the most interesting scenes of the story.

Repo: The Genetic Opera (Mark's take)
14/04/2009. This is a Grand Guignol science fiction rock opera starring Alexa Vega, Paul Sorvino, and Anthony Head. Rotti Largo, the man who supplies the world with synthetic transplant organs, became the most powerful man in the world during a strange epidemic. As he nears death there is a struggle for who will inherit his empire after he dies. The plot, says Mark, is minimal and for a rock opera, there is too little real melody. Visually the film is a little nauseating but otherwise very inventive. Darren Lynn Bousman, director of three sequels to SAW, helms this film with what I would guess is the same sensitivity.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (Frank's Take)
02/11/2004. Director Alexander Witt takes over this elaborate gory gaming gimmick by ushering out the second installment Resident Evil: Apocalypse. The labored formula remains the same regarding a curvy and calisthenics cretin-kicking cutie leading the charge in eliminating some serious zombie butt.

Resident Evil: Extinction (Frank's take)
01/11/2007. Well, muses Frank, the Resident Evil movie series finally reached its trilogy status. This is not exactly something worth notifying the American Film Institute about anytime soon. No doubt the action-packed adventures of Milla Jovovich's curvaceous cutthroat zombie-zapping eliminator has its ardent following. Otherwise, there wouldn't be the existence of Russell Mulcahy's sci-fi snoozer Resident Evil: Extinction, a ludicrous and over-extended action-adventure that feasts on its boisterous banality.

Return Of The Six Million Dollar Man And The Bionic Woman
1/07/2010. pub: Universal FHED2686. 94 minute DVD. Price: £ 6.99 (UK) if you know where to look)stars: Lee Majors, Lindsay Wager, Richard Anderson, Tom Schanley, Martin E. Brooks, Lee Majors II, Martin Landau and Gary Lockwood.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (Mark's take)
01/09/2011. The new Apes film is not into intelligent or even credible social comment but rather the digital spectacle of a battle between humans and apes. Human dominance of apes turns into violent rebellion when ape intelligence becomes widespread.

Robin Of Sherwood Series 1/2
1/12/2010. Robin Of Sherwood Series 1 And 2 Blu-Ray Edition. blu-ray region 2: pub: Network B0042QHAY2. 4 blu-ray disks 650 minutes 11 episodes with extras. Price: GBP49.99 (UK)). Stars: Michael Praed, Judi Trott, Ray Winston, Clive Mantle, Mark Ryan, Phil Rose and Nickolas Grace.

Robocop: The Prime Directives
01/12/2006. DVD Region 2: pub: Prism Leisure PPA 1225. 2 double-sided DVDs. 4 * 90 minute films. 360 minutes. Price: £ 3.97(UK) - really cheap price). stars: Page Fletcher, Maurice Dean Wint, Gerant Wyn Davies, Maria Del Mar and Anthony Lemke.

Robot Stories
01/04/2004. Mark finds a film of five Twilight Zone-ish stories involving robots in some way. They are simple stories - most with a strong insightful element. All but one really says more about humanity than about droids.

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles
01/12/2007. region 2 DVD. Revelation Films B000QEIQ5Q. 88 minutes 1 DVD. Price: £19.99 (UK).

Robots: Frank's Take
01/05/2005. Robots are a mechanical mishap, says Frank. Sure, it’s grounded in animated family fun and some tykes will take to it with a sugar-coated natural high. However, adults will be indifferent by its familiar recycled slapstick themes. Although cutesy in its clang-inducing content, Robots lumbers on unlike the well-oiled machine it thinks it is in concept.

Robots: Mark's Take
01/04/2005. The same team that made ICE AGE tries again to succeed in the CGI-animation film. But ROBOTS lacks all the magic of ICE AGE. The film is entertaining but it is definitely second-rate as current animated features go. It has some good ideas, but overall it tanks.
