The Solar Flare web site, one of the SF genre's stalwarts, is still offline without even sending out a distress flare.
Solar Flare over at www.sflare.com is still offline after over three weeks lying dead in the water, and is not responding to user inquiries ... including ours, trying to establish what the problem is.
One of the more popular hobby sites, SFlare.com have always run a very professional and slick operation, which makes their silence all the more strange. Owned and run mainly by long-time fan Eoghann Irving, the 'Flare have the usual mix of news, reviews, polls and discussion centering around literature, television, and movies in the SFF genre.
Trying to access the site generates the error message: "Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: adodb_mysql in /home/sflare/public_html/pnadodb/adodb.inc.php on line 2824" ... which points to a mySQL database error in their code.
The collapse of the site has gone on so long that Google have now indexed the error message as the actual home-page text (try doing a Google search on 'solar flare' ... they're the 4th search result at the moment).
Google currently PageRank Solar Flare as the 9th most popular science fiction site on the Internet.
