The Great Grandfather of steampunk, Mr J. Verne, gets a Kung Fu makeover of 'Around the World in 80 Days'.
Fancy seeing Phileas Fogg as a mad Victorian inventor with prototype jetpacks, airplanes and rollerblades? Said Mr Fogg played by the often-uneven genius of British comic Steve Coogan.
Fancy seeing his assistant being replaced by a martial arts ace in the form of manservant Jackie Chan?
Then the new Disney version of 'Around the World in 80 Days' (by, cough, Jules Verne, as they so helpfully point out in their promotional materials), may be just the piece of steampunk high-adventure silliness you were looking forward to on the big screen.
With something to prove after DreamWorks walked away with a large slice of their creative mojo, the big D. is throwing quite a lot behind this new movie, and it looks like it might be fairly fun ... although the legions of French Verne purists who worship at the feet of the great J.V. may, we think, feel otherwise.
There's some great movie trailer downloads now available - and the movie opens in the USA tomorrow, we believe. Check them out at http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/80days/main_flash.html
