The U.S head of state is writing a book. Apparently it's science fiction.

The White House press office has confirmed rumours that surfaced yesterday that the American President has been writing a novel.

He joins the former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, who also penned his novel 'Gettysburg' while in office - an alternate universe tale featuring one of the best-known battles of the U.S. Civil War.

Bush's novel - working title 'The Centauri Sanction' - features the invasion of Earth and occupation of the Europe by bug-like aliens, while the USA and the shattered remains of NATO's forces plan a counter-attack from North America.

The President has been working on the novel during his R&R time at his private ranch in Crawford, Texas.

The White House press office said claims that the first chapter of the book opens with the alien execution of the French president on live television were completely unfounded.

No publisher has yet been confirmed yet for the novel, but bidding is expected to reach six figures almost immediately.
