The Owner-Editor of FantasticaDaily.com becomes the latest of the old time science fiction web pioneers to retire. All is blooming gloom, gloom and more gloom.
Another in the latest in a line of retirements and downscalings as editors discover there is more to life than science fiction and/or the internet, Mervius over at FantasticaDaily.com is giving up the good fight.
In a statement on his site, Mervius says: "Working a full-time job and running a website has routinely left me with little time and energy for other things. I've also read almost nothing but science fiction, fantasy, and horror in that time. Dang it, I want to read philosophy and history and other meaty stuff."
This follows a similiar line of thought being expressed over at theAlienOnline.Net, where editor Ariel has being blogging thoughts like: "Now I'm not sure that I want to do it anymore... you know what? I'm beginning to think that life is too damn short. I keep coming back to the mental image of me wandering through the park on a Sunday instead of sitting hunched over a monitor editing book reviews for hours... it's quite a pleasant one, especially with summer coming up."

What can we say over here at the Nest? Been here since 1994. Yes it's a right hard old slog at times, especially when the sun is shining.
No you don't get any gratitude from authors or publishers or fans who seem to expect us to pay bloody massive site bills out of our day job pocket as well as to write massive amounts for free (like they do - ha bloody ha), then do nothing but send in nitpicking e-mails, corrections and complaints.
Yes there is more to life. Shit, what the hell am I doing here? As for my fellow escapees. Good luck guys. See you on the funny farm.
