Old classic science fiction film to be remade.

So says trade magazine Variety, anyway.

The studio involved, Paramount, is getting Stephen Sommers - aka the director of The Mummy and Van Helsing - to update the 1951 film for modern audiences.

For those who missed this movie first time around, a rogue planet is on a deadly orbit towards Earth and a tycoon builds a starship ark so a few humans can escape. At first to much amusement, then to increasing panic to get a place on the last bus leaving Earth.

A very large budget is being promised.

PS - Thanks to Jayme Blaschke who pointed out the original was shot in colour, not black and white as I thought. Jess.
