The Black Library, Games Workshop's SFF fiction wing, have announced a new series of novels featuring their fantasy characters - Gotrek and Felix.

Gotrek is a dwarf, sworn to die in battle to avenge an unknown wrong. Felix is his human companion, who has sworn to record the mighty warrior's death. Since the Black Library's launch in 1999, the miss-matched pair have cut a bloody swathe through the Warhammer world in a series of seven novels, penned by William King. The series has been dormant for the last two years as Bill took time off to write his own fantasy trilogy, but now the boys are back - and this time it's war.

Orcslayer, to be published worldwide in mass-market paperback in October 2006, is the first of a clutch of new Gotrek & Felix novels. This first title picks up the duo after several years wandering the Warhammer world. Returning to the Old World to find it consumed by the total war that is the Storm of Chaos, they soon find events have taken a far darker turn than they ever imagined. Called upon to help rid a dwarf city of foul orc invaders, Gotrek and Felix swoon find themselves knee-deep in corpses, friend and foe alike.

A movie screenwriter based in Los Angeles, the new series author is Nathan Long, who proved his swords-and-sorcery credentials with the Black Hearts trilogy for Black Library.

Nathan told SFcrowsnest, "It's a great honor, and also a terrifying one. The fans love Gotrek and Felix, so I'm treading on hallowed ground - a hallowed minefield more like. The biggest challenge will be retaining the mood and feel of the series, while at the same time trying not to clone the style of the earlier books."
