A second series of science fiction comedy Hyperdrive has been given the go-ahead by Lucy Lumsden, Controller of Comedy Commissioning, and will start filming later this year for transmission on BBC Two. Why.

The final episode of the first series of Hyperdrive will be shown tomorrow (Wednesday 15 February 2006) at 10.00pm on BBC TWO. There will be another chance to catch the final two episodes of the series on Sunday 19 February 2006, also at 10.00pm on BBC TWO.

Set in the year 2151 on the British spaceship HMS Camden Lock, Nick Frost returns to head up the cast as the optimistic but slightly deluded Commander Henderson, who is in charge of the ship's crew as they go about their mission to protect Britain's interests in changing galaxy.

Kevin Eldon will also return as Henderson's right hand man desperate to take-over command of the ship with Miranda Hart as the meticulous Diplomatic Officer Teal. Other returning cast include: Stephen Evans as Navigator Vine; Dan Antopolski as Technical Officer Jeffers; Petra Massey as Pilot Sandstrom, an enhanced human, and Paterson Joseph as the ambitious Space Marshal Clarke.

Lucy Lumsden said: "We're delighted with Hyperdrive and think the team have produced a great first series for BBC TWO. I think we have discovered a brilliant double-act in Nick Frost and Miranda Hart. I can't wait to see more."

Executive Producer and BBC Head of Comedy Jon Plowman said: "We were always very confident that the Camden Lock would be on a long voyage not a short one and I am glad that it will sail on through the galaxy again next year. It's smart and funny as well as a great piece of sci-fi with a great team of writers and performers. I look forward to its second voyage being even more fun than the first."

Hyperdrive will be written by the Bafta award-winning writing partnership Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil who wrote and developed the first series. The producer is Alex Walsh-Taylor, the executive producer is Jon Plowman and the director is John Henderson.
