SCI FI Channel is developing a new 90-minute pilot for TV called Earthlings.
The pilot about three humanoid aliens stranded in middle America explores the themes found in stuff such as Mork and Mindy, 3rd Rock from the Sun, Stranger In A Strange Land, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and Starman, but with a dose of South Park-like satire.
Stranded on our world under false pretenses, the trio - a woman and two men in human form - must figure out how to escape, while navigating the subtle and confusing social conventions of present-day Earth.
Despite their extremely advanced technology and intellect, they find themselves naive in the commonplace things that humans take for granted: falling in love, paying bills, the joys of a chocolate binge, etc.
"We're very excited at the opportunity to work with Dan and think he's got a fresh take on this classic 'fish-out-of-water' convention. 'Earthlings' is a fun, relatable story that should be a great fit for the Channel," Mark Stern of SciFi told SFcrowsnest. "Much like 'Eureka,' it's a concept that has the potential to appeal to our core audience while attracting new viewers."
Dan Waters (Heathers, Demolition Man) is writing and executive producing the pilot. Aaron Geller will be an executive producer and Darryl Porter will be co-executive producer, under their PorterGeller Entertainment first-look deal with FOX Television Studios.
