A little teaser-ette for the animated sci-fi movie coming our way in 2009 from Imagi Animation Studios.

Originally this was a Japanese television show that ran in Japan from 1963-1966. It's one of the first anime and was created in 1952 by Osamu Tezuka as a comic book with the now famous crime-fighting android hero.

Astro Boy started out as Tezuka's riff on the classic Pinocchio story (Carlo Collodi's classic fairy tale series written in the 1880s before being Disney-fied).

Astro Boy is set in a future Japan where androids and humans co-exist. Astro is an android created by the head of the Ministry of Science, Doctor Tenma, to replace his dead son Tobio. Tenma later rejects Astro and sells him to a wicked circus owner, Hamegg, who abuses his performers - yep, just like Pinocchio.
