Andrew Dillon tells us he's signed US writer Craig Miller to pen the script for his company’s science fiction action-adventure feature and television series, Resistance.
Resistance is the story of a covert attempt by aliens from outer space to take over the Earth and a guerilla-style battle to stop them when most of the world won’t believe the threat exists. It's focus is a band of super-smart teenagers at the center of this conflict: not only do they have to save the world but they have to deal with school, hormones and dating.
Resistance was conceived by Dillon, who’s now handing it over to Miller. He’ll develop a bible covering the movie and follow-on television series and then write the screenplay for the movie.
“Craig’s a terrific writer with a wealth of experience. I’ve worked with him before and I know he can bring a special magic to Resistance,” Dillon told SFcrowsnest. “He’s also got a mind that can handle the complications of story and character that will see us through not just a movie but through story after story of a television series.”
Miller will also serve as executive producer and showrunner for the planned follow-on television series.
Miller has worked in the entertainment industry his entire adult life, working with creators like George Lucas and Jim Henson and on projects ranging from children’s series and young adult programs (Curious George, Beast Wars) to a horror anthology series for Showtime (The Hunger). He has a background in science fiction, having been an avid fan of the genre since childhood. In his early days in the industry, he was a publicist.
Miller added, “Science fiction and projects like Resistance are my meat. I’ve done comedy and straight drama, slapstick and thrillers, but science fiction and adventure projects really excite me. And Andrew’s concept is terrific. There’s a lot there and an unending world of great characters and adventures for us to explore. I’m looking forward to building on his idea and taking it wherever the stories and characters lead us.”
Production on the Resistance feature is expected by That’s-A-Wrap Productions to start later in 2008.
