Do you admire the comic-book guy from The Simpsons? Then this is the movie for you. Columbia is set to please sci-fi fans with the tale of a hapless comic-book dealer's adventures. Columbia Pictures has lined up the writing team of Tim and Tom Mullen to adapt the novel The Swap by Antony Moore for the screen, SFcrowsnest.com hears from Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach (presidents of Columbia Pictures).
The Swap is a fantasy comedy that centers on an out-of-shape sci-fi fan and comic book dealer and big-time Fanboy who, haunted by the terrible loss of a priceless comic book (he swapped it away, hence the title), tries to reverse his fortunes at his high school reunion – and becomes involved in murder, romance, and the unearthing of long-buried secrets.
Tim and Tom Mullen's other projects include One of the Guys for Fox with Sandra Bullock attached to star and Strike for Vantage with Mark Waters attached to direct.
John Calley, who also produced The Da Vinci Code, was president of Warner Brothers, and also did A Clockwork Orange, Enter the Dragon, and Superman. He is currently producing Angels & Demons, another novel by Dan Brown, for Columbia.
John Calley, Diana Napper, and Lisa Medwid will produce The Swap for John Calley Productions
