The science fiction and fantasy small press community are intensely worried about the implications of Amazon buying second-hand book retailer ABEBooks.

Nathan Barker of Scrybe Press and Kayleighbug Books wrote in to SFcrowsnest via our new Hivemind service with some worrying news.

" just acquired On the surface, this seems to be an issue but not a huge one. The real concern comes from the fact that ABE already owned Bookfinder (the book search service that allowed customers to check prices everywhere - Amazon, ABE, Biblio, Alibris, independents, and so on)."

"ABE also recently acquired which is the website host and backend service provider for almost every single independent online bookstore. ABE also owned - the inventory and sales management package used by most high-volume online independent bookstores."

"The repercussions of Amazon owing all of this is mind-boggling... they essentially just seized control of the independent bookstore trade."

Any other genre small presses or indie SFF booksellers worried about this? Drop us a live via Hivemind. At least we haven't been bought by Amazon yet!
