Daniel Barnz has signed on to direct Beastly for CBS Films, we hear from Amy Baer, CEO over at CBS Films. Barnz also penned the screenplay for Beastly, which is based on the dark fantasy novel of the same name by Alex Flinn.

Susan Cartsonis is producing the film through her company, Storefront Films. Roz Weisberg is co-producer. A romance, the story centers on an arrogant 17 year-old that is physically transformed and must find true love to break the curse.

Barnz wrote and directed Phoebe in Wonderland that premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury prize. The film stars Felicity Huffman, Elle Fanning and Patricia Clarkson.

"Daniel's fresh vision makes him one of the most exciting directors of his generation," Baer told SFcrowsnest. "We are thrilled to partner with him as he brings his unique voice to arguably the most universally resonant myth in storytelling."
