Man, sometimes the Nest resembles a big obit. column at the back of a newspaper. More sad news just in following the death of Locus founder Charlie Brown - Phyllis Fay Gotlieb, the Canadian science fiction writer who the Sunburst Awards are named after (her first novel was of course, Sunburst), passed away yesterday.
A University of Toronto graduate, she died peacefully of old age at 83 in Toronto.
Her works include Sunburst (the first all the way back in 1964), The Kingdom of the Cats, Violent Stars, Mindworld and Birthstones (her last book to date, in 2007).
Sunburst was one of the inspirations for the X-men comic-book series, with its tale of mutation 'impers' and mutants with telepathic powers fighting a more garden-variety humanity.
