Alastair Reynolds will be visiting the Birmingham Science Fiction Group to talk about his works. This will take place on Friday 9th October 2009 at 8pm at the Old Joint Stock pub theatre on Temple Row in Birmingham (due to the refurbishment of the Briar Rose hotel, they will be holding the meeting at the Old Joint Stock theatre pub instead).

Alastair Reynolds was born in Barry, South Wales, in 1966. He studied at Newcastle and St Andrews Universities and has a Ph.D. in astronomy. Since 1991 he has lived in the Netherlands, near Leiden, where he worked as an astrophysicist for the European Space Agency; He switched to writing full time in 2004.

He has been publishing science fiction ever since his first novel, Revelation Space, in 2000. This formed the start of his series of the same name, including the novels Chasm City, Redemption Ark, Absolution Gap, and The Prefect. Chasm City won a British Science Fiction Association Best Novel award in 2001, and he has received multiple Arthur C. Clarke award nominations.

Alastair will shortly be publishing his new novel Terminal World in Oct 2009 and his omnibus Thousandth Night / Minla's Flowers in November 2009, and has just be awarded a 10 book deal with Gollancz.
