Back in the 1960s we had us a hippy-dippy summer of lurvvvv. Fast forward to 2010 and it’s time for the summer of science fiction reading – with a few more clothes and a little help from SFX magazine and Waterstone’s super-sized megastore just off London’s Piccadilly Circus. Authors such as Adam Roberts, China Miéville, Michael Cobley, Dan Abnett, Graham McNeill and Stephen Hunt will be at the megastore for the kick-off event on Monday 10th May 2010.

To celebrate the launch of the SFX Summer Of SF Reading, booksellers Waterstone’s will be presenting ‘An Evening With SFX’ at Waterstone’s Piccadilly store in London on Monday 10th May 2010.
The SFX Summer of SF Reading is a major multi-issue celebration of the best in SF and fantasy novels, which will be featured in SFX issues 196 (on sale 5th May) to 198. Issue 196 is guest edited by the legendary Terry Pratchett, and you’ll feel his influence throughout the issue.

There will be authors like China Miéville, Adam Roberts and Stephen Hunt in attendance, and while there’ll be a book signing open to all, this is a limited chance to win tickets to stick around for the party afterward.
The actual evening of Monday 10th May 2010 will go like this:
5.30pm-7.00pm
In-store signings (which will also be open to the public – you don’t have to win to come along to this part!) with:
Adam Roberts – Salt, Stone, Gradisil, Land Of The Headless
China Miéville – Perdido Street Station, Un Lun Dun, The City & The City, Kraken
Dan Abnett – Warhammer 40000 novels
Graham McNeill – Warhammer 40000 novels
Michael Cobley – The Shadowkings Trilogy, the Humanity’s Fire Trilogy
Stephen Hunt – The Court Of The Air, The Kingdom Beyond The Waves, Secrets Of The Fire Sea
7.15pm
A swish VIP party for the competition winners only where they can mingle with the above authors (and probably some surprise guests as well), and enjoy drinks and nibbles. This will also feature…
7.30pm
A special panel discussion: “Millions of people watch SF on TV and at the cinema – why don’t more people read SF books too?” Panellists include Adam Roberts, China Miéville, Michael Cobley, Dan Abnett and SFX editor Dave Bradley.

And if you don’t win, you can still turn up at Waterstone’s on Piccadilly on the 10th May for the open-to-all book signing sessions to meet up with a stellar cast of genre authors.
