The first Buffy-loving queen

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton (aka Kate) is getting hitched to Prince William, it was announced this afternoon. Amid all the plans for the wedding next year, one story you can pretty much guarantee not hearing on the BBC is that Kate Middleton was a big Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan as she was growing up when the series was on TV.

Waity Katy, as the red-tops liked to call the ever-patient Kate (who has been waiting eight years for this announcement), used to keep a poster of Prince William in her room when she went to Marlborough College - directly adjacent to one with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anthony Stewart Head.

She won't need to keep a stake under her pillow shortly, though - she'll have SAS-trained assassins to do that for her. Our first Buffy-loving queen, it's a big step for the genre.

Clarence House informs me, 'The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. Prince William and Miss Middleton became engaged in October during a private holiday in Kenya. Prince William has informed The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince William has also sought the permission of Miss Middleton's father. Following the marriage, the couple will live in north Wales, where Prince William will continue to serve with the Royal Air Force.'

Here's a nice song about Kate for you to sing along to. One word of advice to our future Queen Catherine (William already knows this): the tabloid media are the biggest vampires in the world. Check your six.
