British actor Henry Cavill has just accepted the role of Superman in the new Supes film going to be spun into existence by producer Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder.
Henry is best known as 'He of the thrusting bottom' playing the part of Charles Brandon in the bonkbuster TV series The Tudors. Not really noted for its historic realism, The Tudors, you can argue that our Henry is swapping one sort of fantasy series for another.
At least in the new Superman movie he won't be expected to drop his pants and perform too much.
It will be interesting to see how much Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder feel obliged to explain the Superman from scratch, or if they'll dump the childhood baggage and just get straight in there with some Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid, Bizarro action!
Zack Snyder, commented, "In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognised and revered character of all time, and I am honoured to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."
harles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Cavill recently wrapped production on "The Cold Light of Day" and stars in the upcoming "Immortals," opening this fall.
Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros.
