21/11/2011. Bella Pagan, Senior Commissioning Editor at Tor UK, an imprint of Pan Macmillan, has acquired world rights to the first two volumes of a new fantasy series called ‘Drakenfeld’ by Mark Charan Newton. The agent was John Jarrold.

Captain Nemo steampunked by Kevin J. Anderson
21/11/2011. Author Kevin J. Anderson’s newly released novel Captain Nemo (Titan Books) tells a steampunk version of Jules Verne’s creation, Captain Nemo, builder and captain of the Nautilus and secret benefactor to the castaways on the Mysterious Island.

Liam Neeson in new War of The Worlds
21/11/2011. Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of The Worlds is returning with "The New Generation" worldwide tour in November 2012, SFcrowsnest was told this morning by Jeff Wayne and Liam Neeson.

A borrower be? Kindle gets lending
13/11/2011. Amazon has now launched its Kindle Owners' Lending Library. With an Amazon Prime membership, Kindle owners can choose from a selection of books to borrow for free - including 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers - as frequently as a book a month, with no due dates. With an annual Prime membership, the Kindle Owners' Lending Library is included at no additional cost.

Snow White And The Huntsman
11/11/2011. Snow White gets the Lord of the Rings treatment? Get out of here. Thor lead man Chris Hemsworth gets it on with Twilight's Kristen Stewart as Snow White, in this new fantasy movie very loosely based on the classic fairy tale.

Goodbye Smurfs. Hello Popeye.
11/11/2011. Sony Pictures Animation has hired screenwriters Jay Scherick & David Ronn to write the screenplay for the new Popeye animated movie, based on the characters of the comic strip. Popeye is the second project for Scherick and Ronn with Sony Pictures Animation following their movie take on The Smurfs. Sony Pictures Animation and Arad Productions are producing the stereoscopic 3D animated feature.

11/11/2011. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have announced the cast of the 23rd James Bond adventure, entitled Skyfall. The film, from Albert R. Broccoli's Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his third film as James Bond 007.

Jack Black in Bailout
11/11/2011. Ealing Metro has struck a multi-territory deal with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions on Michael Winterbottom's (Trishna, The Trip, 24 Hour Party People) new comedy movie Bailout starring Jack Black (School of Rock).

Haywire... female Bourne?
11/11/2011. After she is betrayed on a mission in Barcelona, freelancing CIA asset Mallory Kane has to go on the run to protect her family and discover why the agency turned on her. This film is a female Bourne Identity crossed with the TV series Burn Notice.

First official Dr Who con... in Wales
11/11/2011. BBC Worldwide are going to mount and run the first ever official Doctor Who Convention since the series’ regeneration in 2005. The event will take place on the 24th and 25th March 2012 at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales - the current home of the show.

The Fuse
10/11/2011. Dervla Kirwan (Injustice, The Silence) and Ewen Bremner (Page Eight, Perfect Sense) are joining ex-Dr Who Christopher Eccleston in an original four-part drama for BBC One called The Fuse. It's written by Bill Gallagher of Lark Rise To Candleford and The Prisoner fame.

Doctor Who Symphonic Down Under
10/11/2011. One of interest for Australian Doctor Who fans, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has announced that Mark Sheppard, will host the Australian first – and only – performances of Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular in Melbourne in February 2012.

SyFy does SciFi
10/11/2011. The Syfy Channel has announced three new projects in development from Universal, CBS TV Studios and Fox Television. They include two horror shows (one slightly X-files-ish) and one new science fiction vehicle being thought of as Trek-like.

The Quantum Thief steals into Japan
10/11/2011. Pippa Wright, Rights Manager at Orion, has sold Japanese rights to SF debut The Quantum Thief by Finnish science fiction novelist resident in Scotland, Hannu Rajaniemi, to Hayakawa via sub-agent Miko Yamanouchi from Japan Uni.

The Farnswoth Video Communicator app
05/11/2011. Steampunk Warehouse 13 technology is coming to iPhone users with the Farnswoth Video Communicator app. Viewers of the TV series can keep in touch with friends, family and other agents using the new app. Users will be able to exchange video and audio messages and create share their own missions in the signature interface of the steampunk communications device from the Syfy series.

DC Universe games goes free
03/11/2011. Sony Online Entertainment is to offer its massively multiplayer online action game DC Universe Online for free. As of today, PC and PlayStation 3 players can create their own superhero, or villain if you are feeling evil, and team up with DC Comics characters such as Superman, Batman and the Joker to either save or destroy the planet.

LA EigaFest: Hollywood's Japanese film festival
02/11/2011. The 1st annual LA EigaFest will take place Friday November 11th 2011 to Sunday, November 13th 2011, at the Mann Chinese 6 Theatres at Hollywood and Highland in Los Angeles. The festival will showcase Japanese shorts and feature films, opening with Milocrorze: A Love Story (2011) from Director Yoshimasa Ishibashi and ending with Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai 3D (2011) by Takashi Miike.
