Military Fantasy

Military fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy literature that incorporates military life, structure, strategy, and themes into a fantasy setting. The subgenre often emphasizes battle scenes, tactical maneuvering, realistic weaponry, leadership challenges, and the gritty realities of war. Military fantasy doesn't always mean the work will be dark or dystopian, but it does often feature considerable conflict and action.

Characters in military fantasy often include soldiers, commanders, mercenaries, and other individuals associated with warfare. There's often a focus on the individual within the collective military experience, the camaraderie among soldiers, and the effects of war on both the warriors and the broader society.

Popular military fantasy series include "The Black Company" by Glen Cook and "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erikson.
