There's a new trend for science fiction PC gaming which here at the Nest we have to admit, we like !

Rather than going to sites and downloading games - which let's face it, can give you real problems when you discover some badly programmed hunk-a-crap has just turned your copy of Microsoft Word into the digital equivalent of Hannibal Lector & is now devouring all your Powerpoint files - you can simply play those games online in Java. No download required.

Such a beauty have we uncovered for you here. The site is called Pogo and they have a suite of cracking little games, the top two of which are based on the classic green wire-frame 3D tank wars, and the equally classic asteroids game.

Our only beef is that they are still single-player against the computer, rather than multi-player against human opponents. The later path we suspect is the road ahead for SF and Fantasy twitch gaming - but so far, most games of the multiplayer variety are pay to play.

These two are 100% free though. Which is our favorite price.
