Stargate to Heaven

I must admit, ever since the last season of Stargate finished on ITV1, I have been suffering a certain amount of SG-1 withdrawal.

At one point, the Sunday afternoon television schedule on ITV1 was starting to look like Science Fiction Sunday, what with Stargate, Smallville and Andromeda all being run pretty much back-to-back.

Alas, now we've returned to the regular diet of antique hunts, Sunday worship and house makeovers, I was beginning to think I'd never get to see the plucky U.S. military take on another advanced alien civilization and win.

But then along came Gateworld, one of the finest sites I have ever chanced across dedicated to Stargate ... with just about everything covered, from the original movie to the TV series, to Stargate Atlantis, the producers' project to follow up SG-1 with another feature film, which will in turn set up a brand new spin-off television series.

And it couldn't be complete without a look at Stargate Infinity, the animated Stargate series set in the future, with Major Gus Bonner and his team of cadets traveling from world to world looking for a way back to Earth.

Now that what's I call a portal ... a veritable Gateworld of goodies.

Master of virtual ceremonies over at Gateworld is Darren Sumner and hats off to you Daz, you've cooked up one hell of a sophisticated site. It's chock full of content, but organized intelligently with a smooth, fast and very slick interface ... one which even looks easy on the eye.

Moving on to the content, there's daily news - mostly snippets, leaks and spoilers about upcoming episodes, as well as coverage of stories such as some fans recently winning walk-on roles in the season finale.

In GateWorld FanFic you can also read stories written by fans from around the world, not to mention publishing your own work in their fan fiction archive.

You can find regular columns on the Stargate mythology and its underlying history, with looks at the legend of Anubis et al, on top of interviews with the producers, writers and stars. Speaking from experience, these can be a real devil to get, so Darren must have some well-deserved admirers and contacts in the Stargate production team.

As with many media sites, there's an extensive episode library in Gateworld with reviews of each ep. up to season seven, which puts most of the more recent material firmly into the spoiler zone for us sad cable-less Brits.

Gateworld grows on you like a Goa'uld symbiote and it's available over at: http://www.gateworld.net/
