In the beginning 01/12/2007 . Source: Geoff Willmetts
A tale of life as we know it, by GF Willmetts. A flick of a switch and in the beginning, there was light. The entity for want of a better name ended up being called God by Man thought it was good and that he could see what he was doing. A flick of a switch and in the beginning, there was light. The entity for want of a better name ended up being called God by Man thought it was good and that he could see what he was doing.
Wanting somewhere to sit down, he created the heavens and the earth. It gave him a pretty sky to look at and a planet which he could potter around and experiment on rather than mess around with the whole universe at a time.
Barren rock didn't suit him, so he created a few trees and before he knew where he was, he had a lush forest. Not wanting to keep them propagating himself, he added insects and birds. Then he thought, what the...he didn't have a word for that, so created a whole range of animals as well. He made a food chain so that some could eat plants and they in turn could be eaten by other animals both big and small. It made it easier than create them afresh all the time.
It was fun, but the being who would be named God was getting bored and there was a lot of worlds he could do this on and experiment variations on. So rather than leave this earth unattended, he created a slightly smarter biped he called Man. It wasn't exactly in his image as he wasn't that material but it would do until something better came along. He cribbed a better model which he called Woman, so the species could propagate.
The pair of them didn't look like they would make good gardeners, so he kicked them out of the forest garden to fend for themselves. Having gotten into the sex thing, they began to populate the world. As to the being would be named God? Well, he needed a rest and went off to explore the rest of creation.
Boredom was setting in as to what Man could do next. A little thought and limited imagination, Man came up with the idea. He would create religion and call it his own but do it in the name of the being that was there in the beginning. The idea spread to the other tribes and created religions in their own way, not happy with the details in the basic design. None of them could decide which was the right one and with God not available to put them right used it to create war to fight over the differences. With no other reason than territory to fight over, Man saw it was good and sharpened his weapons. He also made strides in science and technology that helped shape his world even if he neglected the damage it caused.
Looking out to the stars with a desire to travel, Man also discovered commerce and ambition was going to make it tough leaving the planet beneath. With such vast distances, they would never see where their God had gone or even wonder what would happen if they ever bumped into him. To one of them, the other was a figment of imagination. A boundary neither wanted to cross.
So it came to pass that just because you believe something is so, you shouldn't always believe things are the way you perceive them to be made. If you are going to change something, be careful of what you do when you find the off switch.
As to the being who would be called God? He kept to his pottering. Moving ever on, never looking back and always creating something better than Man.
The End??
