For no charge at all (apart from looking at some crappy ads while you're online), we can bring you - via the miracle of the internet - a free web-based e-mail account.

Why should you use this? Three real good reasons (in descending order of importance):

(1) In a survey conducted in 1999, 27% of companies were found to be actively monitoring their employees use of e-mail through programs such as Little Brother et al. A secure third party passworded web-based email account means that all your employer can monitor is the fact you were using your account - not the actual contents of your messages to friends, employment agencies etc.

As a by-the-by, 81% of companies were found to possess the capability to store and access on demand old e-mails, even if they weren't actively monitoring your messages as a matter of course.

(2) You can access your web-based e-mail from anywhere. Cyber cafes while on holiday, the PCs that are usually provided at fantasy and SF conventions, your portable at home etc etc.

Keep you work and home e-mail accounts synchronized, and never lose your old messages from friends when you move job.

An e-mail based discussion list allows you to post messages to other fans and receive the fruit of their creative juices & overactive opinions back in the same publication.
