Killer fish chasing near-naked women. I miss the good old horror films of the 1970s. This film tries to be one of them and falls on its face. Insultingly the filmmakers thought that modern audiences want lots of nudity and lots of gore, but would not appreciate decent writing or interesting characters. David Suchet, who plays Reacher Gilt in the new film adaptation of Terry Pratchett's novel, Going Postal, chats to SFCrowsnest about why his character is the ultimate in cruelty and theft, meeting the legion of Pratchett fans, and why his first thought about Discworld was, How big is this turtle? There's also a competition to win the DVD. Flash fiction (really flash this time). You thought you were on his execution list last month, here’s how to escape but don’t try this at home. You must have had one of those magic moments of realisation and wonder why it never occurred to you before and then realise an inner truth had been revealed that you’d never considered before. Imaginary light bulbs should now be pinging on over all your heads. Well, at least if you’ve ever had such times. Here’s one of mine. It should work for you.

NEWS
James Frenkel, Senior Editor at Tor Books in New York, has concluded a two-book world rights deal for Australian SF author Rjurik Davidson, for a good five-figure sum in US dollars. The agent was John Jarrold. Volker Busch at VGS Egmont has acquired German rights in two fantasy novels by Mark Charan Newton from Jon Mitchell, Rights Manager at Pan Macmillan. Julie Crisp acquired World rights in the books from agent John Jarrold. As a computer game, Bioshock has always played around the margins with their steampunk and dieselpunk styling - but with the 3rd incarnation of the game... Bioshock Infinite, the game developers have jumped on the bandwagon and shaken its airship hull all the way to the steampunk piggy bank. The last extended trailer for the Thor superhero movie that hit the intertubes got removed by the copyright police in case too many people saw the trailer and wanted to see the movie, thereby making it a commercial success. Let's hope this new trailer carries the blessings of the IP Stasi. The third season of Clone Wars is burning its way back to TV in its usual animated form. The kids will love it as always, but will you, oh Jedi? Stargate Universe's 2nd season is shaping up to be a must watch even in the science fiction calendar for us here. When you have watched this trailer , you may, or may not, agree. Sanctuary is back for a 3rd season on the TV screen, and the world is about to end because of a giant spider with the ability to cause biblical-sized floods. Can the Sanctuary team save the world? Sure they can. A little bit of spy-fi for you, the new season of Chuck is almost upon us (season four, as we count it), and as you can see from the trailer, he is looking good. Trailer for a new science fiction movie called Skyline, featuring that hoary old topic, aliens invading the USA. Odd name for the film, though. Sounds more like the bus service you'd use to go to the airport. Some news just in from our friends at Amazon - all four of the Jackelian fantasy series of novels from HarperCollins are now available in Kindle e-book form from both Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. Author Stephen Hunt comments on the move and the impact e-books are having on the book business. The first trailer for the Thor movie hits the virtual streets fresh on the heels of comic-con. Now that's the hammer action I'm talking about. The Last season, season 10, of Smallville is heading our way, and to mark this sad good-bye to the not-yet-caped hero of Krypton, here's the trailer for the season. Have you been enjoying the last season of Caprica? Well, wait until you see what the next one holds. You don't have to wait of course, because here's the new trailer. Looks good, eh?
