Jake 2.0 26/08/2003 . Source: Jessica Martin
Jake 2.0 comes to TV screens: think The Six Million Dollar Man with nanotechnology bells. Well folks, the Jake 2.0 premiere is due to strike the USA on Wednesday September 10th at 9pm ET/PT.
Helming the new series is actor Christopher Gorham who stars as one Mr Jake Foley, a computer geek who is transformed into a secret agent for the National Security Agency after - in the best traditions of the Hulk, Spiderman et al - he becomes accidentally infected with nanites.
Apparently Jake 2.0 is "based on the real life, beyond-state-of-the-art nanotechnology that reduces the size of a computer to the molecular level."
Which is odd, because the last time we heard about nanites was in some rather dubious Trek episodes. Of course, trying to retro-fit Trek with cutting edge cyberpunk technologies was always going to create some extreme cultural pain.
Anyway, upon discovering his new powers, Jake begins to "operate at an atomic level, possessing superhuman strength, lightning-fast speed, heightened hearing, magnified vision and the ability to communicate telepathically with computers."
Of course, if you count your body's rapidly vibrating molecules, I think you'll find most of operate at an 'atomic level'. But anyhoo ...
The clever old NSA quickly realizes Jake could be just what they are looking for and creates a new team of Super Spooks with him at its core. Cue some Steve Austin-like adventures with a hint of Mission Impossible and a dash of Alias.
Jake 2.0 also stars congressional staffer Sarah Heywood (aka Marina Black, Six Feet Under), Jake's roommate Darin (aka Matt Czuchry, Young Americans), agent Kyle Duarte (aka Philip Anthony-Rodriguez, Enterprise), agent Louise Beckett (aka Judith Scott, CSI) and medical researcher Diane Hughes (aka Keegan Connor Tracy, Final Destination 2).
With roster like that, how can they flipping fail?
