Not a Flight of Fantasy, This
15/08/2003 Source: Jessica Martin

Must be something in the water. Hot on WizKid's heels, games house Fantasy Flight Publishing announce their new SFF imprint.

What, another game-based SFF imprint? Crikes, they're coming out of the woodwork like a horde of orcs spilling out of the Mines of Moria.

Well anyway, apparently games house Fantasy Flight Publishing, Inc. is to begin publishing shared-world fiction based on its game products later on in 2004.

The company has just scheduled trilogies for its 'Dragonstar' and 'Midnight worlds', with the first title in each trilogy to be published in the summer season of 2004.

Interested writers are encouraged to send in your writing samples and cover letters. Fantasy Flight's fiction writer's guidelines are available on the submissions page of its Web site over here.

For would-be authors not heavily into RPG, here's a bit of background for you. Fantasy Flight Publishing - a corporation with offices in Roseville, Minnesota - is a U.S. hobby market producer of board games, roleplaying games, and card games.

Their rather good products include the Lord of the Rings board game, a collectible card game and board game based on George R. R. Martin's 'A Game of Thrones' series, and the Legends & Lairs, Dragonstar, and Midnight roleplaying game lines.

Nice to see such a healthy market after all this gloom and doom in the publishing world.
