New SFF Bookclub launched 04/08/2003 . Source: Jessica Martin
Wildside Press and DNA Publications join forces to launch a new bookclub. Independent SFF book publishers Wildside Press, owned by John Betancourt, and DNA Publications, owned by Warren Lapine, have just joined forces to roll out a brand new book club with a SFF slant to its operations.
FSF.co.uk may not need to lose too much sleep yet though, as from their initial offering, it looks pretty much like a wheeze to mainly sell the two imprint's own titles.
Their initial headline title is Zelazny's Manna from Heaven, an anthology with a few Amber stories that die-hard fans will find hard to lay their hands on elsewhere.
With their official launch in September 2003, the Fantastic Book Club plans to offer more than 100 books by new and classic science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers . . . both fiction and non-fiction, and special editions & group purchases.
With the bluechip book clubs restricting their offerings mainly to the headline names and Buffy tie-ins, it would be nice if this club could widen its offering to cover all the quality small-press imprints and grow to become a significant force for backing novels produced by the smaller indies.
