Whitbourn joins the JJLA 26/10/2004 . Source: Jessica Martin
John Whitbourn is the latest author to join the John Jarrold Literary Agency. Whitbourn has had nine novels published since winning the Victor Gollancz/BBC Radio First Fantasy Novel prize in the 1990s.
Most recently, he was published by his new agent during Jarrold's time with Simon & Schuster UK. He has also written short fiction, reviews and non-fiction pieces.
'I've enjoyed all of John's novels,' said Jarrold. 'In fact, I acquired and published four of them. When he told me he was looking to move agents, I immediately wanted to add him to the burgeoning stable of authors I'm representing! Publishing is all about timing, and I think his use of history - both quirky and magisterial - and outstanding story-telling are perfect at a time when authors as varied as Jasper Fforde and Susanna Clarke are being taken very seriously inside and outside the genre. His new ideas may well possibly work better on a non-genre imprint, but that's a discussion for the future.'
