Islam in Science Fiction

Muhammad Aurangzeb Ahmad launches a new web site looking at the world of Islam in the SFF genre. Muhammad Aurangzeb Ahmad dropped us a line to let us know that his new web site 'Islam in Sci-Fi' has just launched.
Muhammad - aka von Aurum - says: "The site started when I was searching of some information on the topic online but did not find anything. So I decided why not make one myself."
He coins the term Sultanpunk, saying on his site it is: "a neologism that I coined for a subgenre of Science Fiction stories set in anachoristic middle ages or in alternative history setting. The neologism is derived from the word 'Sultan' which was frequently used for rulers in the Muslim world right upto the beginning of the 20th century. Sultanpunk is inspired in part by the Steampunk genre. Sultanpunk stories are usually set in the high middle ages and the setting is mostly an Islamic culture. Sultanpunk lies somewhere between the dystopian vision of cyberpunk and the optimistic vision of postcyberpunk. Sultanpunk is too recent to have generalizations made about it."
The site looks at the world of Islam in SF films and novels, looks at Islam in parallel history, touches on SF written by muslims, and invites you to contribute to his soon to be released online library of original works of Islamic SFF short fiction.
